  • January 2024: HOT OFF THE PRESS! Our webmaster, Stuart Harrison, is reluctantly having to offer his beautifully restored 1964 Elizabethan 29 ‘Aelana’, hull #25, for sale at £14,950. Aelana (formerly ‘Blue Bess’) was put through a comprehensive 3 year refit at the Sussex Yacht Club following her purchase in April 2015 and has been sparingly sailed to/from the EOA rally each year and along the South Coast from Brighton/Shoreham since relaunch in 2018. She’s the blue hulled E29 that graces many of the pages of this website - for further photos, a more comprehensive specification and a 2017 insurance survey report detailing her condition mid refit please see the full listing here.

Aelana moored at Brighton Marina

  • June 2022: A long standing and active EOA member, John Baynes, is reluctantly listing his Elizabethan 23 “Holly Blue” for sale. She’s priced at $4,950 and is presently moored at Lympstone on the River Exe, Devon. John hopes to bring her around ‘the Bill’ to the EOA 60th Raleigh in Lymington at the end of July so a viewing could possibly be arranged there. John describes her as follows:

Holly Blue is a 4 Berth 23 ft (7.00 m) GRP long keel family cruiser with a 10 HP Yanmar inboard Diesel engine. She has a galley, sink, marine toilet and good storage. Comfortable cockpit with Spray Hood and Dodgers. Comprehensive safety, navigation, anchoring, mooring and general equipment. Very seaworthy small yacht, easily sailed with family or single-handed. These yachts were designed when it was expected they would happily cross the channel and make similar offshore voyages. I have sailed Holly Blue single-handed between the Isles of Scilly and Littlehampton. Very well suited to coast hopping and their size makes them significantly more economical than larger boats to moor and to maintain during the winter months. For interesting reading look at articles by Jim Mottram (mainly in PBO) who sailed his Elizabethan 23, ‘Reservation’ single handed around England, Ireland and down to the Med having crossed Biscay and also made several voyages to the Baltic; all single handed.
I am only selling her as a result of family pressure, which thinks that at the age of 80, I should no longer be sailing offshore single handedly - so unreasonable!
